Cant Copy and Paste Text As Filename in MS Office?

Infopackets Reader Simon W. writes: " Dear Dennis, I made the transition from Windows 95 to XP a few years ago, and since the upgrade, I've noticed a change in the way the 'Save As' dialogue box works with MS Word. For example: Under Windows 95, I ... would select a section of a document, copy it, and then paste it into the Save As dialogue box, and the document would save with that filename. However, now when I right-click over top of the Save As dialogue box under Windows XP, I don't have the option to 'Copy' or 'Paste' anymore (as I once did in Windows 95). Hence, I have to manually type in a ... (view more)

Remove / Disable Windows XP Welcome Screen

Gazette Reader Thora P. writes: " Dear Dennis, I used to start my PC and go get my coffee; when I returned a few moments later, my PC would be ready to go. After installing the .NET Framework (so I could download your news feeds using RSS), I am now ... prompted for my user name and password at the Windows XP Welcome Screen. In other words, Windows doesn't log me into the desktop straight away like it once did. I would prefer not to have the XP Welcome Screen. Can you help? " My response: Great question. I noticed this too after installing .NET framework. Apparently .NET creates a new user ... (view more)

Difference Between Software and a Software Application?

An Email Client Better Than Outlook Express?

Infopackets Reader Francoise D. writes: " Dear Infopackets Team, Many thanks for your great web site! I recently read an article that said that Outlook Express (OE) does not reclaim empty space after an email permanently removed from the Deleted ... Items folder. The article went on to say that only compresses its folders when it reaches a certain point (whenever that is). This bothers me because I get a lot of mail, and I hate to think that although the emails are deleted, the space is still being wasted. Do you know of other email programs that handle their folders in a more practical and ... (view more)
