Razer Unveils High-End, Lightweight Laptop
Razer is by no means a new firm, but it is new to the world of manufacturing hardcore, high-end PCs. Having built world-renowned PC peripherals for years, Razer is now getting ready to release its first ultra-portable but also ultra-powerful gaming laptop, dubbed "The Blade."
Blade Laptop: Super-Powerful, Super-Light
Razer is best known for its high-quality mice and keyboards, both of which are built specifically for Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing games (MMORPGs) like World of Warcraft or First-Person Shooters (FPSs) like Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Razer's devices offer not only more buttons than the average peripherals, but also offer a number of customization options. Given the popularity of these devices, it's no surprise that Razer is arousing lots of interest with its Blade laptop, which was unveiled for the first time August 26th.
The Blade is a 'kitchen sink' kind of laptop, offering a 17" screen, 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 2640M processor, 8GB DDR3 RAM, and powerful NIVIDIA GeForce GT 555M graphics card. (Source: forbes.com)
The most mentionable aspect of the Blade is the fact that it's incredibly powerful and yet, maintains a reasonable body weight. While most laptops with this kind of muscle come in at a very hefty ten to twelve pounds, the Blade is significantly lighter, at just seven pounds.
Razer also boasts a number of other handy options, including a "Switchblade" interface that allows users to customize ten "dynamic tactile keys for easier access of in-game commands." Then there's the dual-usage LCD display, which can switch between traditional and touchscreen functionality.
Blade Laptop: Super-Expensive
Unfortunately, even though the Blade offers a lot of power at a reasonable weight, the price remains pretty hefty: $2,800. Spending that kind of money on a laptop likely won't be a problem for many hardcore gamers.
For some users, the Blade could serve a number of functions. Its feather-like frame allows one to tote it around like a netbook, which is not something that can be said for every gaming laptop. (Source: pcmag.com)
Razer hasn't yet announced a release date for the Blade, though it's expected the device will be available when the holiday season descends.
