a-squared Free Review (Malware Scanner)
You might hear security experts say that a good defense against malware is to add multiple layers of defense, keep them updated, and use them often.
If you'd like an additional way to scan your PC for malware like Trojans, dialers, worms, and Spyware, you might want to give "a-squared Free" a try.
Currently, a-squared has more than 200,000 malware signatures that it scans for. My wife and I have been using this program as an extra layer of defense for nearly two years now. It is often updated and rock solid stable. The a-squared Free scanner may not be the very best scanner available, but I'm certain you'll find that the price is right -- after all, it's free!
After installing, you will need to register at their website (for free) in order to receive updates to the signatures. After that, whenever you want to scan your file system, just start a-squared or right click on a folder and choose "a2 Scanner".
Here's a quote from the a-squared website:
" a-squared [Free] is a complementary product to antivirus software and desktop firewalls on MS Windows computers. Antivirus software specializes in detecting classic viruses. Many available products have weaknesses in detecting other malicious software (Malware) like Trojans, Dialers, Worms and Spyware (Adware). a-squared fills the gap that malware writers exploit. "
